Shinedown graced The Sylvee in Madison, Wisconsin with their presence Tuesday evening for a highly-anticipated, sold out show. Unbeknownst to the fans, the crew and the band until moments before the show, bass player Eric Bass would not be joining them for their set and would remain on the tour bus as he was suffering from several herniated discs in his back and just could not manage to join in on the festivities.

As stated by frontman, Brent Smith, and reiterated by guitarist Myers and drummer Kerch, “Eric is the strongest person we know” and for him not to perform the show, is very telling of his condition. That said, the show must go on and that it did. With a significant number of hits on their setlist as well as a variety of cover tunes by artists including Otis Redding, Metallica, The Black Crowes and Lynryd Skynyrd, Shinedown managed to pull the crowd together for an authentic music experience despite the fact that many fans were hoping to see the fullfledged stage production that normally features pyrotechnics, lasers and exceptional, well-timed lighting even though the full-stage was set up directly behind them under dim light.

Regardless of whether or not the show lived up to the expectations of each and every fan in the venue, Shinedown never disappoints and more than makes up for any shortcomings thrown their way. Smith and Myers performed a nearly three hour acoustic set accompanied by drummer, Barry Kerch, patiently sitting idle for the occasional accompaniment on tambourine and show of support. What normally would be an hour and a half set, easily doubled in duration and became a sing-along with old friends enjoying a night out on the town. Who says you need all the bells and whistles when you have what really matters…great tunes and an undying devotion for your fans? Well done Shinedown, well done!
